Weekly Digest January 24-30

Powerful music from French Celeste, Cloakroom with its concept album, long and hypnotic two-song album by Earthless, as well as many different types of death metal, metallic hardcore, hellish mix of sludge, rock'n'roll and grindcore, and heavy metal in our Weekly Digest!

Burned In Effigy – Rex Mortem

The Chicago band's Burned In Effigy debut album is radiating with professionalism. The band calls its genre neo-classical melodic death metal and tells no lies. The melody, complex structure of the songs and the hit material makes Burned In Effigy sound very confident and energetic. It should be liked by both mdm fans and even fans of much lighter music.

Celeste – Assassine(s)

Celeste have been breaking the outer boundaries of heavy music for over fifteen years. When they first evolved from the Lyon hardcore punk scene, they were absolutely brutal and entirely unique, delivering extremity on their own terms, that they pushed further and further with each successive album. "We just wanted to get darker and more violent" says the drummer Antoine Royer, "Assassine (s)" takes Celeste brand of black metal to a new level.

Cloakroom - Dissolution Wave

Cloakroom celebrate their tenth anniversary as a band with their new album, "Dissolution Wave". "Dissolution Wave" is a concept – a space western, in which an act of theoretical physics – the dissolution wave – wipes out all of humanity’s existing art and abstract thought. In order to keep the world spinning on its axis, songsmiths must fill the ether with their compositions. Meanwhile, the Spire and Ward of Song act as a filter for human imagination: only the best material can pass through the filter and keep the world turning. A very exciting album.

Deathcult – Of Soil Unearthed

True to their roots in classic death metal, residents of Iron Bonehead and Invictus Productions, the Swiss Deathcult have released an album with devastating riffs, strong and tough rhythm section, and intense growl, which for me is probably the coolest thing on the album. The band's inspiration from the 90's Swedish school of death metal is obvious, but it is combined with black metal and nods towards trash. This album slaps!

Earthless - Night Parade of One Hundred Demons

Psychedelic rockers Earthless give a mesmerizing and darker than usual heavy stoner rock on their new full-length "Night Parade of One Hundred Demons", which consists of two instrumental compositions that last for forty and twenty minutes. Fasten your seatbelts, the journey begins right now.

Ectoplasma - Inferna Kabbalah

The 4th full length from Ectoplasma. Muddy, organic, disgusting, bone-breaking and rotten-to-the-core death metal. The Greeks' new strike in their crusade against inane, overproduced 'death metal'.

Gloves Off - Life . . . And Everything After

Of course, there are several hardcore bands with this name, but today we will talk about metallized hardcore from Pennsylvania. This is a debut album, the first four tracks of which could be heard on the debut EP of the band "Life ...", which was released in 2020. The band does not waste a second and will make you want to grit your teeth and destroy anything that may stand in your way from beginning to end.

Rabid Dogs – Black Cowslip

A fusion of grindcore, sludge and rock 'n' roll, roughly fused with mass culture and inspired by B-movies. The Italians Rabid Dogs are just what you need while drinking a few glasses of beer on Friday night and immersing yourself into the weekend.

Tangent – s/t

A debut EP from Australian metallers Tangent, released by Dying Victims Production, who understand old-fashioned metal. Here we have three high-energy punky songs and one ballad, full of hit riffs, guitar harmonies and everything we love so much in heavy metal. Nothing too complicated and everything is in place.
