Weekly Digest 22-28 March
This week we’ve got hyped death metal by Sanguisugabogg, surprisingly great tech thrash metal album by Cryptosis, for stoner rock fans – new Greenleaf and Yawning Sons, for doomed stoners – 1782. Also there’s a new wave of British death metal from Celestial Sanctuary, punk soundtracks to the first day of spring by Dollhouse and a supergroup Tomahawk in our Weekly Digest!
1782 – From The Graveyard

Celestial Sanctuary – Soul Diminished
New Wave Of British Death Metal (NWOBHM) – that’s the style Celestial Sanctuary plays according to their Bandcamp page. Really cool mid-paced death metal with some doom and punk thrown into the mix right on, nodding to all the best British death metal bands.

Cryptosis – Bionic Swarm
Technical thrash metal at its best. From the lyrical themes to the riffs, solos, and the overall superb musical performance. It’s prog-ish but still fast and aggressive, after being kinda tired of thrash metal as a genre (if I’m into listening to thrash, I listen to the old classic staff or just go for speed metal or death metal) I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this album.

Dollhouse – The First Day Of Spring
Usually when we talk about "raw punk", it’s not where we look for any melodic songwriting, it’s more about the music’s blasting and punks slam each other, pouring beer on one another. It’s great, but when bands like Dollhouse appear, everyone just lose their shit. Raw, aggressive, noisy yet melodic and actually listenable. Dollhouse slays.
Genghis Tron – Dream Weapon
Genghis Tron return with their highly anticipated new album "Dream Weapon"! The band’s first new studio outing in 13 years, Genghis Tron’s Hamilton Jordan and Michael Sochynsky are now joined by two new collaborators: vocalist Tony Wolski and Sumac/Baptists drummer Nick Yacyshyn. Together, the lineup delivers the unique mix of extreme rock and electronic music. Definitely more progressive and less extreme than their 00’s work, but a fun listening, nevertheless.

Greenleaf – Echoes From A Mass
The beautiful album by Swedish heavy rockers! Hypnotic grooves, driving drums and roaring riffs, great vocal melodies, and overall an amazing performance. "Echoes From A Mass" mesmerized me.

Tomahawk - Tonic Immobility
Tomahawk, the rock band featuring Duane Denison (The Jesus Lizard/Unsemble), Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle/Fantômas), Mike Patton (Faith No More/Mr. Bungle, etc.) and John Stanier (Helmet/Battles), return with their first full-length album in eight years, the highly-anticipated "Tonic Immobility".

Sanguisugabogg - Tortured Whole
A death metal band that got signed to the Century Media right after the release of their 11-minute demo EP in 2019. So the hype is big and Sanguisugabogg can even challenge Обрій (transc. ed. Obrij) with the amount of t-shirt and long sleeves they’ve released in past two years. The money for the fun music videos also came with the Century Media – so do check them out and become a part of the ‘cool kids club’!

Yawning Sons – Sky Island
Yawning Sons were formed in 2008 when Yawning Man's signature sound architect Gary Arce travelled to the UK to work with the Kent-based instrumental riff-psych quartet Sons of Alpha Centauri. Upon the first day of working in the studio, it was clear then that something special was taking place. Within the space of a week, a new band was formed, with the resulting sound like none experienced before. "Sky Island" is another voyage into the astral realms, featuring guest performances from Mario Lalli (Fatso Jetson, Desert Sessions), Scott Reeder (Kyuss, The Obssesed), Wendy Rae Fowler (QOTSA, Earthlings?) and Dandy Brown (Hermano, Orquesta del Desierto).
